Magneto dash panel , with a coil engine - AllAlloyCup - 27-06-2018 I’m starting to plan out the electric circuits for my GE Cup Special. It’s a 1925 Chassis and 1927 instrument set, but I’m using an early coil engine. I’ve been looking at both relevant circuit diagrams In Nicholson and it looks straightforward as regards Ancillaries, horn , tail( +now front sidelights). Taking the Ignition feed from the panel to the coil rather than to the Mag. However is it the case that the H setting for lamps sends 6v to each headlamp? But the L setting puts the headlight filaments In series ie 3v to each lamp ( single filament)? Thus the L setting is no use as a Dip setting so I suppose I’ll need to introduce a conventional 6v Dip switch. Or is it preferable to cut the right bit of brass strip( on the control panel) Any constructive suggestions appreciated. Using 6v LEDs throughout. Regards Bill G Aka AllAlloyCup Ps will be at Beaulieu on Sunday. You will need a coil ign switchpanel. RE: Magneto dash panel , with a coil engine - AllAlloyCup - 27-06-2018 Perhaps if I used another separate on off switch to send current to the coil And just ignore or disable the original on switch? I’ll have a voltmeter rather than An ignition lamp. I think this might still be workable. Thanks for the warning about how the internals of the mag panel work. RE: Magneto dash panel , with a coil engine - Ruairidh Dunford - 28-06-2018 Bill, I have a coil switch panel that I would be happy to exchange for your mag one if it helps you. Tony. RE: Magneto dash panel , with a coil engine - AllAlloyCup - 28-06-2018 I do like a challenge though! Plus I also like the silver faced instrument set I’ve assembled so won’t swap. I had a very good coil switch panel too But sold it recently to help fund the steel 1 1/8” crank! I like the relay idea and might work on that approach... Thanks again for the constructive advice Zeto I’ll look for a dip switch and a CAV on off switch at Beaulieu at the weekend. Regards Bill G (Currently sweltering in Dorset ....) RE: Magneto dash panel , with a coil engine - Ruairidh Dunford - 28-06-2018 I have a silver faced coil switch. RE: Magneto dash panel , with a coil engine - Ruairidh Dunford - 28-06-2018 When I ran the Chummy on a coil conversion I just wired a simple live-feed toggle switch hidden up behind the steering column bracket and only used the switch panel to turn the dynamo on and off. RE: Magneto dash panel , with a coil engine - AllAlloyCup - 28-06-2018 I’d actually prefer a CAV panel but they are “Unobtainium”, both in scarcity and price! My GE Cup Special will have various oddities & anachronicities! The most obvious being the 7” Hubs and wheels. I may even have to print a Bingo card for those Folk who wish to kindly point these “faults” out to me. Hope the weather holds for Beaulieu. Bill G |
