Used a round piece of stainless steel with a thin rubber sheet round the edges to make a “seal”(?) and dropped into the recess, seems to have worked. The original two metal tags once suitably freed from rust still seem to hold it in place.

She died last year and when looking around for things we would like to keep I simply had to have her 'A Round Tuit' plate. It is currently packed away with lots of other things waiting for our building works 'up north' to be completed. It is going to have pride of place in my new workshop/garage. Worth pennies, but absolutely priceless to me.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think!

Yes, it does seem like the original round tuit supplied by Austin was wooden.
