Diff banjo strange welding
#1
Hi All

I’ve started to clean up a 1931/2 diff banjo as I hope to pick up a suitable torque tube on Sunday.

I’ve found this welding.  The only reason I can think of for doing this is that the casting was porous in this area.  Anyone else seen this?

Cheers

Howard

Definitely seen signs of welding in that area before - why, I don't know.

I've seen that on a few RN diff cases.

Am not familiar with those cases. Could a carbon arc have been used to heat for bearing entry?

Hi All

Thanks for the comments which show that my banjo isn’t the oddity I thought it was. Bob..on this axle the bearing is fixed in the torque tube which needs to be a sliding fit in the banjo to allow for adjustment in the mesh of the CW&P.

Cheers

Howard
