I am getting to the rebuild stage where I need to think about petrol tank. The existing one was not leaking but in the past I have patched it up by soldering copper plates over rusted leaking areas and with the introduction of Ethanol am considering possible corrosion of solder and copper. At my age (late 70s) this will be the last major work I will want/be able to do.
I have the tank mounted a bit higher than original on brackets welded to a chassis extension supporting under the boot floor.
What would be best for future:-
1. Continue use of old tank.......I would rather have peace of mind with a new replacement.
2. New tank in stainless......who is recommended to do this and make a good job at a sensible price?
3. New tank in aluminium ......who recommended to do? (lighter is bonus).
I would prefer someone local so easy for them to take measurements and less likelihood of items being lost or damaged in transit. Hoping to get Nippy to Centenary celebrations.
