NEW NIPPY PETROL TANK - Dennis Nicholas - 07-02-2022 I am getting to the rebuild stage where I need to think about petrol tank. The existing one was not leaking but in the past I have patched it up by soldering copper plates over rusted leaking areas and with the introduction of Ethanol am considering possible corrosion of solder and copper. At my age (late 70s) this will be the last major work I will want/be able to do. I have the tank mounted a bit higher than original on brackets welded to a chassis extension supporting under the boot floor. What would be best for future:- 1. Continue use of old tank.......I would rather have peace of mind with a new replacement. 2. New tank in stainless......who is recommended to do this and make a good job at a sensible price? 3. New tank in aluminium ......who recommended to do? (lighter is bonus). I would prefer someone local so easy for them to take measurements and less likelihood of items being lost or damaged in transit. Hoping to get Nippy to Centenary celebrations. Dennis RE: NEW NIPPY PETROL TANK - Ruairidh Dunford - 07-02-2022 I have used Dave Campbell at Lincolnshire Radiators for over a dozen petrol tank rebuilds/builds/repair now. Their work is first class with a quick turnaround postal service. You can get Dave on: 01522 684195 RE: NEW NIPPY PETROL TANK - Mike Costigan - 07-02-2022 I think you'll find any decent local radiator specialist will be able to help; I had a new tank made by Mansfield Radiators which was totally satisfactory. RE: NEW NIPPY PETROL TANK - Ruairidh Dunford - 07-02-2022 My experience locally to me in Glasgow was not so unfortunately, hence my specific recommendation. RE: NEW NIPPY PETROL TANK - Stumpi - 07-02-2022 https://www.alloyracingfabrications.com/ I purchased a 3 gallon tank from ARF with outlets and cap to my requirements. Excellent service and delivered in a few days for £120. They do a custom range and a selection of std tanks at sensible prices. You may not need a very big tank how far are you likely to travel Andy RE: NEW NIPPY PETROL TANK - Rogerpugs - 07-02-2022 I've no experience of them but compbrake.com advertise Austin Seven baffled tanks. Hope your get your Nippy to Moreton-I'm trying to do the same!! RE: NEW NIPPY PETROL TANK - Duncan Grimmond - 07-02-2022 I can make you a new one using fittings from your old one (or repair your existing one) but I'm afraid it will cost more than £120.00... RE: NEW NIPPY PETROL TANK - Dennis Nicholas - 09-02-2022 Thanks for all the replies. Have since been to see my local friend/welder/panel beater (bread and butter modern car crash repair man) who has done quite a bit on my Nippy special bodywork and he seems to think he can make a new tank in alloy ok. Interestingly he is currently working on a stripped down Rolls Royce alloy body improving the door shut fit.....a small imperfection at the door front was getting the very detailed attention.....I would not have noticed the slight deformation had he not pointed it out. He is going to make some new doors for me in alloy frame and skin...the old steel ones are so heavy with some wood rot and rusted out at bottom and don't fit the openings.
