In open top cars I tend to wear earplugs as I too suffer from tinitus. It started in my motorcycling days and if I can I avoid too much loud and high frequency noise. I went to an audiologist who took moulds in wax and made custom fitted plugs for each ear ( in different colours port and starboard). If I use the Ulster with an original Bluemels sprung wheel I can drive very long distances with no hand fatigue at all.
With the RN on a 200 mile trip at the end of the day my fingers feel tingly. This wears off after a couple of pints of beer.
On both cars the drag link is up to its work and I suspect some of the tingling sensation is transmitted from the road and yes the wheel is held lightly.
