RE: Original ulster engine rebuild - Tony Betts - 11-06-2022

Hi R,

I thought it was the big bushey beards.

Well that's as far as I got.

As far as I can tell, without a test run. Everything is done except the carb.

I need to set it up correctly. Will play with that tomorrow.

Had the engine running breafly, its lively. And no smoke blowing.

Oil pressure shot straight to 45lbs.

hi joe,

good to see you.

can you put some pics up of the sevens together today. i only had my broken phone, i forgot to take the ipad.

and yes i actually made the event at stonehurst, WITH the SUPERSPORTS.

i started work on it again at 6.30am this morning. set the carb. done the bonet. a few checks. then a drive around the village.

the throttle isnt right, and i need to tweek some settings. OH and i have an oil leak, looks like the seal on the front of the camshaft.

but we did make it, around 11.30 at stonehurst. (fasionably late). and the little car went well.

I witnessed Tony's arrival at the VAR Austin 12 Centenary Rally, the car sounded well and the driver pleased after all the burning of midnight oil!
Lovely low key Rally with an amazing variety of around one hundred Twelves.

Hi chris,

Much admit, it's a lovely location.

Some stunning cars, good to see the edmonds family had brought there austin 20hp

Truly stunning.

I even took the chance to have another look around the museum today.

They were just getting the bus out for a drive on the field as I left.

I beleive they have a military day in august, if I'm free for it I'll have another drive over.

Tony.

RE: Original ulster engine rebuild - Tony Betts - 13-06-2022

thanks joe,

lovely pictures.

the edmonds car, is very close to the one wayne had.

it shows how motoring has changed.

the front is cut off to the shoffuir, which in its day gave the gentry a massive amount of room in the back.

were as today the driver/owner might want a little more room in the front.

as you say, well done to the V.A.R and the duffins.

i recon they had 2 or 3 of there own austins on the field. and the double decker in the afternoon. its nice when the venue has its own interest in old cars. especially austins.
