RE: An "interesting" boat-tail two-seater.... - Malcolm Parker - 17-06-2022 There's no excuse for buying a pig in a poke. If you are green and new to the world of Austin 7's, it's not at all difficult to find someone local who knows the beasts and can give it the once over. If you are told it is a dodgy buy but you buy it nevertheless, then you don't deserve any sympathy. RE: An "interesting" boat-tail two-seater.... - Martin Prior - 17-06-2022 Unfortunately it's the "newbies" who so often end up with these sub-standard cars. We've carried out major rectification work on two this year that had passed through the hands of the same dealer. I could not say whether he had carried out the work himself, but the style of the "upholstery" at least was very similar to that in the two-seater. I would love to say more, but had better not at the moment. RE: An "interesting" boat-tail two-seater.... - Tony Griffiths - 17-06-2022 While the car is a disaster area, one has to hand it to the writer of the Auction blub. The several hours spent composing that tripe beats even current Russian propaganda in its untruths. RE: An "interesting" boat-tail two-seater.... - Hedd_Jones - 20-06-2022 Its just a pity that what is clearly a proper body was butchered onto a LWB chassis. RE: An "interesting" boat-tail two-seater.... - frequentflyer - 20-06-2022 It is a bit of a mess but its cheap and nothing that can't be repaired or sorted. The discription is a little ambitious but not the first time for an old car in an auction. All that said I dont want to make it my next project. RE: An "interesting" boat-tail two-seater.... - JonE - 21-06-2022 I note it's up to just over 3k. 1983 registered but no listing of 'declared first manufactured 193x' or whatever on the V5. Does that mean it wont get free car tax, what with the DVLA-imposed chassis number? Interesting blurb on the auction: The car's unusual charm grabbed the present owner, who describes it as "Lethally brilliant." RE: An "interesting" boat-tail two-seater.... - JonE - 27-06-2022 not sure what it got to finally, but just noticed it's popped up nicely photographed on Facebook marketplace for 9995... RE: An "interesting" boat-tail two-seater.... - Mike Costigan - 27-06-2022 It went for £7,200 on the Car and Classic auction. I have a beautifully maintained known original boat tail for sale for a friend for £14,500 A bit more money, but you should always pay more for originality and quality. Tony. Let us hope that the buyer knows what he's getting into. If he's read this post and knows the problems ahead, he must be mustard keen to own it. |
