For a while the speedo has been acting oddly, so today I investigated. It seems oil is coming up the speedo cable and gumming up the works. But why?

Hi

In no particular order:

Gearbox filled with correct oil ?
Gearbox oil level not too high ?
Is there a gearbox breather, and if so is it blocked ? Maybe someone else can answer this.
Is there supposed to be a seal on the inner cable at the gearbox end, and if so is it OK ?
Has the inner cable been lubricated with graphite grease (not oil) and the last 8 inches at the speedo end wiped clean ?
