A special day
#1
In ten days time, here in Britain, we can look forward to a Bank Holiday weekend, perhaps a good time to keep off the roads!

However, Sunday June 5th will be exactly one hundred years to the day when the Austin Motor Company held their annual Gala Day and the prototypes were first put on show. So how about a mass drive out on Sunday?

Yep, after ringing the bells in two of the local churches plus the hand bells on the village green, I’ll be out and about in the box, luxuriating in the new leather interior, which I have very nearly finished.

Shall be taking Harvey (RN) to the ever popular Classic Stony (Stratford). Appears that this year they will have a Spitfire fly-past.

A little later I know, but Gala Days continued for many years. From the plan in the programme they took place on the flying ground at the top of the test hill; where the CAB's were built much later. There were many event, races and competitions. Also Refreshment including a bar by Dare's (old Birmingham Brewery). Music was provided by the Band of the Legion of Frontiersmen and the Band of the Grenadier Guards

Yes I was out in the Seven today to help a friend with a poorly Ruby which a new set of Champion D16 cured. Had a nice brisk run back from Chapel then joined the hordes of outsize moderns on the A6 at 25mph all the way to the A555 with it's 50 mph limit and they all flew past me at 60/70 mph as far as the traffic lights where I caught them all up.
