Took Smiley out for an Easter Run today. First run since Servicing
by the local Austin Specialist.  Very pleasant morning for it.
Out for 2hrs,  Got back, Mo said What the ------ is that on your trousers.
Get em off.??

No prizes for guessing. Yes it has happened to others many times.
The ..........who serviced Smiley pumped a load of Black Grease into
the Steering Box. That in turn, had screwed its way up the steering 
column and found its way out just under the Steering Wheel and plastered
itself on both trouser legs

Moral: Fill the steering box with SAE 140 oil instead of grease. (Yes, I found out the hard way too!)

One of my earliest memories, from about age 4, of the Austin is grease landing on my father's Sunday best trousers. I was often later told I had a warped sense of humour which is probably why I remember. And even very mild swear words were much more novel then. I occasionally used to travel standing up  in front of my mother in the passenger seat....
