Torque tube support
#1
Attached is a picture of the parts to attach the torque tube to the chassis cross member. I am assuming the following assembly order:
1. The small disc into the housing (not shown) put in first with concave face down
2. Then the ball (which is attached to the cross member) next
3. Next the 'blind' tube with the concave face up
4. Then the big nut ('blind' cup)
5. Adjust for a few 'thou movement in the housing (not shown)
6. Lock with thin nut and special lockwasher
7. Of course lots of grease which then falls out everywhere!
HOWEVER should there actually be a stiff spring in the hollow tube and if so what to use and how to adjust?
Otherwise why is the tube hollow (apart from weight) and why is it so long?
As a relevant query .... any clever ideas to stop the grease dropping out?
Thanks, Nick
