Remote gear changer plans required
#1
Could some kind person let me have drawings and details to make a 4 speed remote changer which will engage reverse? My present changer, based onĀ 60year old memory of a "Super Accessories"one used to let me lift and pull back in the usual way,but since I changed gearboxes I can no longer do this.I think its to do with serendipitous wear in the old box but I am unwilling to tamper with the innards of my new one.I have a lovely tame engineer so sophisticated construction would not be a problem. My gratitude for a solution could be in the form of amber fluid tokens if appropriate.

Really surprised that in your old one you didn't have to push down and pull back..? Usually a fulcrum in the middle of the long tube allows you to do so. Steve Hodgeson made one for me on the pattern of the old Speedex remote, which is probably identical to the Super Accessories one.

That is certainly how my old remote worked, with a fulcrum half way down a tube that the rod ran in. It actually worked very well...

Here is one I made with the feature described in the earlier answers. It is fitted to the gearbox with longer than standard bolts so that it does not strip the threads, and the collar around the original top column of the gearbox is a close fit. There is no bolting down to the transmission tunnel; it is rigidly fixed only to the gearbox. Halfway along the tube there is a solid nylon bock fixed inside to the bottom so that pushing the gear lever down lifts the front end to select reverse. I think the gear lever pivot came from the top of a Ford Escort gearbox.

On this subject, has anybody got the first four inches (gear box end) of a gear stick rather than cut up a good one that they could part with.
Four speed synchro.
I am always interested in any information about Rosengart details or current owners.

check this out http://www.austin7club.org/How%20To%2012.htm
or buy an Eltos style remote gearshifter from Tony Betts at 450 quid (# QE 50 in his catalog of castings)
