Steering wheel coating repair
#1
Hi all,

Before starting a repair attempt thought it might be wise to get your views! My original Bluemels wheel is in pretty good condition with the exception of a few small areas. To prevent further loss of coating and stop the areas snagging in use I planned on painting the metal black then applying some clear epoxy to seal it and stick the black plastic coating edges....

Thoughts? Certainly don’t want to have it recovered as areas in question are small!

It is possible to melt Celluloid in Acetone and fill small holes with the resulting thick paste, once completely hardened it can be sanded and polished for an almost invisible repair. You do have to watch shrinkage and cracking as the acetone evaporates again from the repaired area. I have used acetone in water to soften hard raised edges and stick them back down.
