Hello all
I'm not going to bother with a speedo on my special. Do I need to blank off the drive at the gearbox (will oil issue from it? -I'm assuming it will).
If I do need a brass cap on it, does anyone have any idea of the thread size please?

Hi Steve

The thread is 3/4” 26 TPI.

If you have an old speedo cable just take the thumb nut off and put a blanking washer under it!

I think you may have trouble with the law if stopped without a speedo.  I’m not sure if gps versions are permitted?  Perhaps others can comment.

Depends on the age of the car; I believe a speedo is not a legal requirement for cars registered before 1st January 1936.

I don't think oil gets out unless you have a very full gearbox, in which case the speedo drive will be the smallest problem.

Just checked, the critical date is in fact 1st October 1937, see paragraph 35(2g) - note the requirement is first use, not construction:

Hi Steve, no speedo needed, but lack of one does not exempt you from speeding fines!

Your special looks fast and will attract attention, hopefully none bad.
