Providing all your studs are ok, it's a fit and forget option, and they dont leak. Fit them dry.

I used one to cure a leaky sump joint. I also used a fibre washer on each of the bolts as well as the proper flange washers, result - an oil tight bottom end. They’re a bit more expensive but well worth itj
Buy an Austin 7 they said, It's easy to work on they said !

As others have said, fit bone dry and use fibre washers.
Do not over tighten, just on the crush is best. Fit and forget, job’s a good-un.

And there was me thinking that Seven engine oil leaks were 'de rigeur' and one of the many patents listed on the dash plate!

And how, may I enquire, is one supposed to lubricate the underside of one's 7 and the top side of one's driveway if, by the use of these new-fangled silicone thingies, the oil is retained within the sump?

Fear not, having carefully followed Rhuairidh's instructions on how to fit gasketry purchased from Jamie or made up from silicon sheets from a specialist catering supplier, the Ruby is as close to oiltight as possible. Austin Seven oiltightness is, however, a concept of its own, and whilst consumption is down to a pint of oil only for several hundred miles or so, a thin protective film is still applied to the underside. A huge improvement over a total loss early JAP, or indeed a Spamcan.

Agree, even with oil tight sump, silicon gaskets elsewhere, oil appears - all that happens is the rate slows down quite a lot.

Silicon sump gaskets. The best thing since sliced bread. No more nasty complaints from “Her who must be obeyed” about oil stains on the driveway. Since I fitted one I have got my stripes back.

Would you believe it "Her who must be obeyed" refers to my Ruby as the toy.
