Can you have 3 letters and 4 numbers in UK?

Not as far as I'm aware, I would imagine this is an Indian registration system. It's possible the car's been in India for most / all of its life - I believe the Morris Minor has.

Northern Ireland uses three letters and four numbers (both ways round), but nowhere else in the UK ever has. The Chummy has an Indian registration.

Good find Chris. Have to admit, it does look early... We are waiting for a chassis number etc on the Morris forum that Jeff mentioned having pointed the owner (? - the owner of the Minor at least) at the 'quote this number' pdf to aid him...

The registration number format is consistent with post-independence Indian issue. I don't recognize RN though - Rajasthan is RJ.
Prior to independence the format was 1 letter: 4 numbers (until 1939) then 2 letters : 4 numbers until 1947.

Hugh,
Likewise I'm not really sure whether the Minor man is the owner of all the vintage / classic vehicles in that workshop / sprayshop - perhaps he operates a car restoration business from there - he's certainly moved at a fast pace on the Minor restoration in the past few weeks. There's a large possibly late 1920's American saloon in there with a similar registration format - looks to be RSL 5344.
Jeff.

The car looks to me like a '23 or early '24, but seems to have large brakes. Because of the wide number plate it's difficult for me to tell whether it has provision for shock absorbers, or even if dampers are fitted? But how great it looks. I particularly like the shot taken behind the camel. Cheers, Bill in Oz
