A major five year restoration of my RP Saloon (previously owned by me 1969 - 73 & bought back in 2014) will hopefully (?) be completeed this summer. I am very grateful for all the help I have received from this site along with Dave Williams (Austineers) David Nightingale (upholstery) Rob Ransley (bodywork) & my good friend Roger plus a good few others!. I appreciate that RP saloons were never originally fitted with a rear luggage rack & it would not be wise to put any load on one if such a rack is fitted. However I reasoned a rack would be a more attractive method of mounting the rear lights & number plate so bought one from Willie at Austin Reproduction Parts (who has also been very helpful).
Has anyone fitted one of ARPs racks to an RP saloon please & if so I would be grateful to see how you mounted it under the car. Either photos or a visit by ourselves within reasonable distance from Cambridge would be welcome if possible please. I have bought a length of similar gauge metal to the rack & know of a friendly blacksmith who could bend it to shape.
Alternatively if anyone has any other type of rack on an RP photos of its mounting (or we could come & see it would be very much appreciated please.
Regards,
Alan.
