They secure the hoop as well as the crankcase. They are unique to GE cars so far as I am aware.

Yes please. Presently the flying cup is fitted with some studding and half a dozen nuts.

and here: https://gordonenglandregister.wordpress....rousel-719 It has a small aluminium sheet attache to it and supports the underside of the petrol tank. It is attached to the underside of the special engine mounts.
