RB would make it a Derbyshire car when new, so it may have spent all its life in the East Midlands. But a steel-bodied RK? That would make it a real rarity!

Does it have a steel body? It was built during the transition period, but it is very unlikely to be steel?

No Colin, it is most unlikely to be steel. A steel body would require considerable expenditure in press tools to manufacture - the RK was hardly a transitional model, but the last of the line.

There are apparently two surviving steel bodied export (Spanish) cars from around this time - 'Conchita' the coupe, and the low roofed RK.
RK steel Coupe.jpg (Size: 152.95 KB / Downloads: 373) I wonder how were these made? By 1930, were panels on the aluminium cars still formed by hand, or with presses? The photos of the ebay car seem to suggest the body is aluminium, from where the paint is missing, though there is some rust on the back panel on the right?

The rust patch on the bottom right of the rear panel could be an old steel repair patch by the apparent continuation lines in the paint. My vote is for a soft aluminium body some gorilla has been pushing.

Asked vendor about the body. Reply is that he has a Heritage Trust certificate saying 'metal panelled saloon'.
Chassis no. is 110331 - so not on the register. |
