A question for the coach builders

Hi all. 
On the back vertical panel frame assembly's outside pieces, there is a recessed edge 3/32" deep on the edge facing forward from the top of the piece to the bottom. According to the instructions that John Heath wrote for this van kit, the outside of the van is to be clad in 18G Aluminum, so I am wondering if this recess is for the aluminum to be fitted to?

Can anyone confirm this assumption?

That sounds entirely plausible.  You'd then have a flush joint to bead over.

If you can zoom in, top rear corner, on this photo you'll see that the rear panel wraps around the rear post and butts up to the side panel and then the half round moulding covers the join.
That's the way we've always done it having copied and original van body.
