What have you done today with your Austin Seven
Yesterday and today I have taken my Ruby for test drives after a four month project reconditioning the engine and gearbox. Thanks to the advice from the forum and two local Vintage Austin members the car is running well. The last time that I had an engine apart was 55 years ago and had never had a gearbox apart before. Naturally I was very anxious that I had done something wrong and that the restart would result in a blow-up. Fortunately that hasn't happened.

What I did today was look at the oil filler on a magneto engine, and wonder whether the draftsman responsible for that got a commission from an oil company, or maybe encountered an oil rep every Friday in a nearby pub. My ageing memory suggested the subject of after market oil filler assistance had been discussed and illustrated here on the forum, but I can find nothing. Anyone else remember this, or did someone commission replicas and still have one in stock?

Today is the 90th anniversary of FG’s first registration in Fife. It has been out on a ‘jolly’ up to Cefn Mawr and back today, about 60 miles covered. I have a photo of the little car outside the post office in Cefn, but, alas, at the moment the desktop computer is not talking to the internet and refuses to talk to my tablet! So I can’t post it yet.

Sorry, didn't see you there John. Erm, a bit of solder? It has the demeanour of a lost dental filling...

I can only guess it dropped off the inside of the tank, or - more likely I think - was ingested from a 'dirty' petrol pump somewhere in the wilds of Sweden. It probably bounced around inside the fuel tap for a while, hence the difficulty in diagnosis - the first time this happened I checked the supply and it looked quite healthy.

I didn't start as there seemed to be little interest. I could but I can't seem to find the information...
Still have a couple of wing tanks in stock though....

Not quite today, but yesterday evening - my first road legal run in the Chummy. I've had this project on the go in one form or another for over 15 years so it's good to finally have all the paperwork through to be able to actually use it. Lots of fettling still needed and I think the ignition needs adjusting as it's very down on power, but it's always easier to work out what needs doing on a car you can actually use properly.

Like it or not, the school prom now seems to be a part of UK culture.  I couldn't refuse my eldest grandson's request for me to drive him and his lovely girlfriend to their event even though it meant a round trip of 90 miles - on a fine summer evening through glorious Welsh countryside.
The Austin attracted more attention than the Porsche, the stretch limo, and various boy racer machinery - it might even have helped a little bit in them being presented with "Prom Stars of the Year" award!
