I owned a 1925 Austin 12 Clifton for 10 years, it was a delightful car but as Ruairidh states, woefully underpowered, especially with the early, short stroke 1660cc motor, like mine. The car was flat out, on a level road at 40mph and returned 20 - 22 mpg all day.

BTW, all Austin 12 models built before September 1932 are, by definition, "Heavy" models. The "Heavy" was a nickname, prompted by the introduction in 1932 of the Light 12/4, which is a completely different vehicle, reflecting the advancements in motor engineering that had taken place since the introduction of the earlier model in 1921.

The earlier model 12 continued to sell in small numbers through the 1930's and the last were produced as chassis for the taxi trade in the late 1930's or very early 1940's.
