Am I missing something here? Is this little piece of plated brass meant to align the door nicely when it shuts or does it really support the rear of the body when it flexes? I have the battered remains of these things on my ORT and they don't align, but my doors don't open when I'm driving (although when I first had it MOTd the examiner placed his jacking beam at the rear cross member and she opened up like a tulip in bright sunlight!)...

Is the problem more structural, or is this normal?

They don’t stop the door opening. They do take some weight off the hinge although this is pretty marginal. I think they are really there to give a trimmed look to the door fitting. Mine are currently with a blacksmith for building up again as they had worn down far enough to have a nasty cutting edge.
I didn’t think they would be an item available from any of our suppliers.
