What have you done today with your Austin Seven
Hi All

It was the Light Car and Edwardian Section of the VSCC meeting in Llandod this weekend.  Rules require unmodified pre 1931 cars.  Entry list ran to 175 cars. As usual Sevens dominated the list.  Anyone know what the little blue job is? Some left a bit of a mess!

Liz and I did the short run (70 miles) to Devil’s Bridge and back but others did the long run (120 miles) to Aberaeron and back.  Strong winds and rain showers made us glad we were in the RK. Those in open cars looked frozen!

Our car ran OK but has a noisy back axle and was a bit low on power for the very hilly terrain round here.

Unfortunately we had a puncture!

The little blue job is a French cyclecar, horizontal opposed twin two stroke whose name escapes me
(later...) Sima Violet I found it I saw one at Montlehry a few years ago

They used to have the registration number painted on the exposed flywheel...strobe light required! Still, hardly likely to be speeding though they are reputed to be quite nippy!

I'd agree with Duncan. The Alcyon had a fake radiator surround and core fitted.

Addendum.

Further research suggests this is a bit of a minefield.
Marcel Violet was a prolific designer and had a hand, not only in the Sima-Violet, but in other cycle cars - Major, Deguingand, Mourre, Sicam, Bernardet...and the Alcyon. All air-cooled.
He also designed a water cooled engined cyclecar - the Violet-Bogey.
The Sima-Violet had a horizontally opposed air-cooled transversely front mounted engine of 496 cc. This drove through a 2-speed gearbox mounted on the rear axle.
With similar transverse front springing, the Alcyon was virtually identical.

Now, back to Austin Sevens!

Marcel Violet was certainly prolific and very active.  In the legendary Amiens Grand Prix of 1913 he drove a Violet-Bogey. In 1920 he raced a car entered as a Major, in 1921 his machine was a Weler, this having a Major engine. At Monthlery in October 1925 there were three Sima Violet recorded as finishers, Marcel first place in the 750cc class, and messieurs Dore and Stanton first and second in the 500cc class. Second in the 750 class? Well it came from Longbridge and was driven by Edie Hall.
