Zenith 26VA choke spring replacement

Hi all,

I am replacing the choke spring on my Zenith 26VA carburettor.

To remove the broken spring it appears that the choke operating lever and (throttle ?) cam will need to be separated. They are I assume a tight push fit but I am fearful of damaging one, other or both.

How is the best way to tackle this?

For choke read air strangler or air shutter if you prefer!

Hello. There is no need to separate the lever/cam as you can 'unwind' the broken spring with a pair of pliers over the cam. Re-assembly is the reverse of disassembly (to use a phrase borrowed from Haynes).

The rubber band has now been replaced by the choke spring!
The technique you suggested is much the same as fitting a key to a key ring.
