Beaulieu Autojumble 2022
#1
Good afternoon. Does the deafening silence on this forum about the event reflect my disappointing experience?

Regards from the creative county Staffordshire.

Not complete silence, there is already a thread although admittedly nothing in it post-event: Beaulieu Autojumble (10-11 Sep 2022)

I'd be interested in reviews. I had tickets but due to a Friday event being pushed back a day and the resultant knock-on, I wasn't able to go.

I heard it was quiet but didn't ask further. Was it?

I went Saturday and Sunday having only seen the red and Green fields on the Saturday .I arrived around the time each day just before it opened and there was no queues at all to get in to Beaulieu.
It's been a long time since I've been to the autumn event, can't remember how long but remember how long the queues used to be.
I thought there used to be four fields,There was red ,green and smallish yellow, and blue tents.
I did find a Few bargains however including a £8-50 crankcase, broken just where I wanted ,good everywhere else and Talbots 10 rad shell, perfect for a vintage special I have in mind.

I have had a stall for about 20 years selling mainly pre war parts, stall prices go up every year without fail this year a stall was I think £155 fuel was £100 and I sold £390 of parts that I had bought over the years. I am not complaining but just saying what we are all thinking its not going to go on much longer, the yellow field is dead in the water and there were gaps here and there in the others. regards to all Rob.

Some years ago we sat down after the Autojumble and worked out why we go there. We soon realised that it wasn't primarily to sell things - from a financial viewpoint it would be far better to stay at home. However, it's good to meet people (especially our foreign customers), to deliver pre-ordered parts and to collect parts from suppliers, and to enjoy the 'buzz' of the event. That's why we downsized from two pitches to one - we can do all we want from a single pitch and it saves money and effort.
This year our takings were our 3rd worst (by contrast the Centenary was brilliant as far as that was concerned) but the weather was OK and we still enjoyed the event. There were far more foreigners around - they seem to have got over the effects of Brexit and Covid. However it seemed that the number of visitors was down a lot - after the initial rush things got steadily quieter and in the afternoon there were periods when there was hardly anyone around.

It may be that the number of foreign visitors that you were aware of was as a resut of the parlas state of the pound...

Indeed. My sales to North America have taken off. But, it's always salutary to recall Harold Wilson's blatant lie, "The pound in your pocket...".
