I'm a bit behind all this 'today'. But over the last few weeks I have put the 15years ago chance e-bay engine in the RP after. I couldn't get all the muck out of the H/C head so went with a good low comp head after all. With some fiddling got it to run half decent and went for a drive.
Clutch was a bit high but worked ok. No smoke, pulls well. Oil seemed to stay were it was supposed to, same with the petrol and water. Splendid. Gave it half an hour and went to fetch some chips, and like a switch the clutch stopped working, well nearly stopped working as it went from fine, to barely catching in one gearchange. I managed to get it home barely. Thankfully I didn't need to stop. I do not believe its getting any spring force on the plate. I did the roller mod as recommended on here, and I wonder if one has jammed something up. whilst the clutch linings are not new, they were certainly not worn out, nor actually was there much slop in anything, just the levers were too far in before adding the rollers. So the swine will have to come out again. Hey ho. Life would be boring if there was nothing to do. The car was last restored 32years ago, its only been here 5, Father kept it very nice. But I agree with Malcolm
The engine bay got a swill off with some white spirit before that engine went in. The engine got tarted up also, scotchbright and diesel on the ali, paint for the iron. Some red on the fan. I do not expect the paint on the manifold to last. I also 'blacked up' the Bosch clone dizzy, it had got decidedly tatty. I did smarten up some of the wiring with shrinkwrap also. But really its more or less as restored in 1990. I have had some excellent advice re my clutch issue, suggesting the clutch bearing may be binding on the gearbox nose and thus not releasing the toggles. I shall investigate this before taking it out. One can live in hope!

Lubricate the release bearing via the funnel lubricator (and, therefore, hopefully, the gearbox nose if the hole in the release bearing housing that leads the oil to the gearbox nose is clear) and work the clutch. If that is the problem, usually solves it. Steve

Father fitted the Klaxette to accompany the Rist. My grandfather made the rather blingy stainless trumpet on the Rist. Im assuming probably because British Aerospace had it in stock. Having tried both, the Rist is by far the superior horn for frightening cyclists.
Probably just as well that I didn't wave too vigorously at the driver of the truck with "Hedd Jones" on the cabside near Caersws this morning, though as I wasn't in a Seven even you would not have known what the greeting was.
