Hugh has the right idea - decide how much you are willing to bid, and don't bid a penny more. But don't place your bid until the final 30 seconds of the sale - if you show your cards too soon others will outbid you. As for sniping tools, if I remember correctly they require access to your bank account and for me they do not sound like the kind of 'businesses' I want to entrust with that access.

You are mistaken, no access to anything other than your eBay account is required.

Absolutely Colin - thanks for pointing it out. Last evening I made a sizeable offer but sadly that has been declined. I shall now go away and lick my wounds and ponder what to do next. I was extremely disappointed the offer was declined without even a counter offer or a suggestion as to what might have been acceptable, particularly as I explained to the seller my Archive connections.

I don't wish to discuss this any more here, if that's ok. Be like Dad and all that...

Might be worth an informal chat with Richard Hunt at the Vintage Motorshop at Batley before proceeding any further. I would certainly value his opinion and general feeling about this publication - what he doesn't know about Austin literature (and indeed any motoring epherma is not worth knowing!)
