Rear main bearing - fitting
#11
Thanks for all the suggestions. Obviously I can't try all the methods, but I now have a plan of action. I'll let you all know the outcome, probably later in the week.

I fitted the rear main crankshaft bearing today. The method I chose was to fit the bearing housing and outer race first and drift the inner race on to the crankshaft afterwards. The only problem I encountered was drifting the outer race into the bearing housing. Despite heating I could only get it in half way, so ended up taking it to R & E Arnett's of Doncaster who used their bearing press to complete the job. Took them about a minute to set it up and pop it in place. A donation to the tea fund was made.

Many thanks for all your advice and suggestions.

I hope you checked afterwards for any scoring on the outer ring and given the tightness of the outer ring in the housing did you still have internal clearence  ?
