fuel pump types interchangeable?
#1
Evening
would be grateful for some advice. I have 33 box with late 33/early 34 2 bearing engine. it has what I believe is an M type fuel pump as on picture below.

My question is a simple one, is this interchangable with a T type pump?

Thanks
Andy

Yes provided the arm is the correct type they will both work.

Yes.

But you need to check the T type pump has the correct arm for the A7.

The T type was used on many different cars.

Someone will come on here (probably) with the numbers you need to see, cast onto the arm.

The inlet and outlet positions are different. You cannot get the right by moving the top relative to the bottom.

The outlet can more or less be lined up with the existing pipe, the inlet is then about 180 degrees out.

I have made a short conversion pipe, extending the original, taking it under the pump to meet the inlet.

I didn't want to permanently mod the pipes. Not yet.

Most T types have a priming lever, and spares are available. Which is why it is worth doing.

Note the arm from the M type will not fit a T type, though I am working on a bodgy conversion just for my own amusement.

I believe the correct arm is numbered 856955 but arm no. 1524079 is also said to fit.

The three types you may encounter are interchangeable IF the correct lever is fitted as noted above. They are:

AC "M" type, 1932 - 34.

AC "T" type, 1935 - 39

AC "U" type, never fitted by the factory to Austin 7's.

Many cars have had "U" type pumps fitted but they are of a larger capacity and may cause problems with flooding. This looks to be what's fitted to your motor Andy.
