The CI 1A7675 measures 1 1/8" in length.

Strange?
I have the spacer from my axle in front of me. It seems to be a 1A 7660, but no part number. Dimensions: Outside dia. 1 1/2 " Inside dia. 1 1/8 " Length 3/4 " but with a burr and some fretting. I wonder in what way the pinion shaft and housings were amended in September 1938 to allow for a difference of 3/8 " ? This is the pinion assembly that my axle has, late '37/ early '38....

The alteration shown in the Sept 38 Journal is for the heavy Big Seven type axle. Does this explain the difference from yours?

I know the spacers are often worn but only when something is loose. Why is this so common?

I have tumbled upon few good dwgs of the layoutof the post 1933 axles but the one above is a good representation even though the bearing retaining nut is not obvious as such or the location of the shims. For those unfamiliar may be worth retaining.
