shorten the dynamo

I am starting work on restoring a special, and have a problem on which I could do with some advice. It's ruby chassis based.
The body has been made very narrow at the front, and the dynamo and distributor sticks out in the fresh air beyond the bonnet!
Is there a way of moving that in? Maybe using a modern dynamo, or even doing away with the dynamo and charging circuit, and relying on triple charging the battery in the garage?
Anyone who has dealt with this issue?
There's also incidentally no front cone, starting handle, or fan- I'm assuming that the original builder was contemplating using an electric fan.

did it ever get to being used? i.e. how sustainable IS that body? does it have a conventional radiator? (does it need pump too?) I'm wondering if mine was always at the 'theoretical' stage and thus needing re-planning for practicality now.
Whilst acknowledging a deep trust of the working of well maintained, original 1930s systems, I'm also intrigued by the energy-porn that is small modern 12V battery boxes which are put in place by some for some functions. I guess it comes down to when it's registered and how far away do you want to get from vintage feel.

I think it went at some point.
I'm certainly going to get it going, but originality can't be a major concern, it's a special after all.

Certainly no shortgae of old housings for such antics. Did you locate a reverse running dyn or just run in reverse as 6v VW conversions? If running reversed did you tweak brush location? The retention of the cover a nice touch!

Love the aerodynamic look which will you will appreciate in practical terms when you get on the road over 65 ( mph!) 
The exhaust looks quite a way out from the body — does it come in all right to follow the body line?

Hi Steve, not too difficult to shorten the Dynamo, as for charging, drive a small alternator off the propshaft?

Or, to keep things simple and to get it out and about quickly:   with a conventional radiator you will get away without a fan unless stationary on hot days or trundling up steep hills.

Charging the battery will keep you running all day, unless you are using headlights and the starter.

Starter is the problem, unless you carry two batteries - but if you are not doing lots of stop - start, I wouldn't worry too much.
