1935 ARQ Ruby, does the exhaust silencer/tailpipe poke through the hole in the rear chassis x-member (ns) or hang underneath with a mini type rubber mount ?
currently underneath, but tailpipe kickup over axle looks too low ???

Mike, having tried both options, if you put the tailpipe underneath, then the axle would clobber the tailpipe way before it hits the bumpstops, but that seems more logical, so why is the hole there ?

I've had four low-frame cars, and all have had exhausts under the rear axle, but if you can fit it through the hole and achieve the clearance you need, go for it!
Edit: Sorry, that should read under the rear cross-member; they all had the tail pipe going over the axle.

Not such a daft question after all !!!!!, judging by others asking the same question, as It just looks better I'm going through the hole, guess generic exhausts try to cover both bases, but underneath just does not clear the axle enough ?

Through the hole looks neat when it's done. I had to make my own tailpipe so made it to suit through the hole and over the axle.

I'm going "through the hole" , but will be fitting a "trick" downpipe so can mod later. Engine will be fitted next week, then final exhaust run will be assembled.

On My 2CV the long exhaust has been replaced by a much shorter side emission arrangement, primarily to prevent it being sacrificial whilst trialling. I have wondered that, when the tin worm consumes the Ruby exhaust a similar side emission pipe would be a sensible replacement for the current extended route the gases take. Would shorter and more direct pipe contribute to performance, or make so little difference as to be unnoticeable?
