The little crack is often a source of a leak which manifest itself by allowing water to go up the centre stud.
It is often thought the head gasket has failed when this happens. I have used gasket goo under the washer on the centre stud to stop the leak as a tempory measure. Tempory as in the same block in use for 20 years until a crack appeared in the side of number one cylinder that is. ( block was + 080 thou ) |
