Densotape has worked on crown wheels,pinions and halfshafts for me after being stored in a damp garage for decades.

It always irks me the vast amount of spares ruined by rust. The local VCC hoard is seriously depressing, esp for those not intending to fully recondition everything. What many discrd the more able can utilise if not ruined by rust. Any plain journal once rusted is ruined for long term use. Uncovered items rust markedly. Keeping the air out assists . This includes especially water jackets. Persons rat thru parts hoards, part dismantle everything and expose camshafts, gearbox shafts and the like to rust. In my experience rusted (non skew or hypoid ) gears seems to function ok at least for tens of thousands of miles.. Very many expensive ball races are replaced avoidably. Engine oil soon dries off. If unbroken grease seems ok, especially the old time drying greases like Castrol CL if anyone has a tin of.
