Restoring a 'Diver's Helmet-type' rear lamp
#1
A kind friend has offered me a Lucas diver's helmet-type rear lamp which has suffered a bit of wear and tear. The glass in all three lenses is cracked so I would be grateful for any link to where (or if) replacement glass can be found and any advice as to disassembly. My usual methods invariably lead to more damage than I started with!

Best of luck restoring this rare lamp which
Is increasingly hard to find.

I’m also restoring some lamps : Lucas AT201 tail lamps
I can find old bodies,
But finding rear brass rims to suit and also
The jewelled glass red lenses seems to be a fruitless search.

So thinking about making a mould from the one lens I have
and casting some red acrylic into it.

Has anyone tried making lenses this way or even having
glass lenses pressed? They are about 1” in diameter.

If anyone knows a source of such lenses I’d be keen to find out.

As you know Paul Beck can supply a reproduction Lucas AT201 with screw on cap and plastic faceted lens but unfortunately spares are not available.

I have fitted a Paul Beck 'AT 201' with a correct Lucas faceted red glass plus clear plastic liner and the result looks good to the casual viewer.

These reproductions are not cheap but can provide spares.

Cheers, Tony.

John BARLOW had thousands of the glass AT201 lenses.

Try him.

If he has eventually sold them.

Then give me a call, I don't normally sell these to public.

but had the forsite to buy around 100 when they were on offer. For damaged rear lights that come into me.

I have around 50 left and obviously don't want to sell them all.

If John does still have them, then everyone should by some spares for the future.

Tony.
