Might still be on some fragments of A30 underneath. Next to it are the skeletal remains of a Jowett Bradford, not at all visible when the shrubbery has leaves.

Robin,  yours is an inspired guess, but the A30 is not just off the A30 but just off the A40, which, incidentally, when I worked for Powys Highways very briefly in 1975/76 was to be redesignated the "Moscow to Cork International Route Number xyz123orwhatever" following some scatterbrained bureaucratic scheme.  That title had to be included on some realignment drawings at the time.  No doubt there's a global map of such routes somewhere.

Maybe there is also a map indicating plans to greatly widen and deepen the Mon & Brec  Canal, to improve inland waterway provision between Fishguard and the Thames. The A30 might have ended up on the quay side at Llangynir International Port.

When I bought and then rebuilt the special the only panel I retained was the bonnet but I always meant to remove the pop rivets that held on the hinge and replace them with copper rivets and make some brackets? to hold the straps in the right place.  As I really had other work to do I did this instead, I enjoy working on the Austin much more than the more recent vehicle that needs my attention.

Yesterday, on my way home from Wrexham, I saw the odometer go from 99999 to 00000 as I entered Corwen and reading 00013 when I got home, which suggests that i have done 4819 in the RP since I bought it twelve months ago.

So, today I gave it a 'big' service:- changed all the oils, cleaned the sump gauze, greased and oiled everything that should be greased or oiled, painted the springs with oil, checked and adjusted the brakes, adjusted the tappets, cleaned the points and plugs and reset the igniting timing, and cleaned and reset the carburettor. And made a list of things that will require attention in the near future.

But, for the moment, the little car is running very well. To be fair, it was running well before, but it's surprising how a modicum of attention perks it up!

The car is a 'matching numbers' car and I hvae it's history from 1958 onwards. It was restored by the gentleman that i bought it from in the early seventies, who used it very sparingly, judging by the MOT certificates that came with the car until 1994when it was last MOTed, drove four miles home and  was then stored in a heated garage for the next twenty-five years until I purchased it.

I therefore have good reason to think that the mileage may very well be genuine.

Ahhh! Having spend a good part of the day in  the garage, quite a bit of it on my back and being 'helped' with my labours by the Motoring Dog, my sense of humour is probably in the third drawer down of the toolchest!
