Hi Guys
In the eternal quest for a bit more grunt out of the supercharged special, does anyone have or re-make a lower crown wheel & pinion ratio for the D type diff ??
I'm running the standard 5.25, what I'm after is the Van or Nippy 5.65 or one of the '50's period special ratio's in between....
Anything like that exist on Yonder Isle ?? I've trawled through the Treasured Supplier websites but couldn't find anything...
Aye

Tony Leslie's got a 5.65 crown wheel on eBay if you have a pinion to go with it....
There was a Regent 5.35(?) pair popped up at a couple of autojumbles last summer , I'm afraid I don't recall whose stall it was on - they are still out there though.

Foolish question, but are the pinions completely matched sets... or do they still technically fit when the crown increases by a tooth or so?

I asked a very similar question a while back Jon!
You need the right pinion, the tooth shape is different.
(That is to say, you could only use a pinion from another 8/45 pair.
Ideally you don't mix and match parts from different pairs, but they will work - the main probable downside being noise).

I fitted one of David’s 5.67 : 1 ratio sets to my Pearl about 8 years ago - I am very pleased with it and would suggest it is a good modification if you want to keep going in top gear on longer hills etc.

Steve, you can't get 5.67 with a 7 tooth pinion. David Cochrane's website quotes 6 teeth, 6:34 to be precise.
