All Alloy Cup progress
I dove out of the yard today, up to the roundabout and back. As I went over a pothole there was a clunk of the diff hitting the underside, argh!
I made the same tunnel as I did on the last special forgetting that this one has a Morris rear axle. There is a flange all round the casing which stands more proud than the Austin diff and it was just catching. Cut hole, form cover and fit with clecoes and try again. Another case of operator malfunction...

Two steps forward , one back is the rule when doing the “shakedown runs”

Not called shakedown trials for nothing!

Ps finished forming the shapely exhaust downpipe
fitting it to match the manifold and the silencer took
Longer than bending it.

It has to dodge the “hoop” so ended up with 3 -4 bends
formed with a very large hydraulic bender.

Now to get the steel flange brazed to the copper pipe.

After a day tidying the garage, getting rid of rubbish
and putting tools away I have returned to the wiring.

So far so good with the following circuits tested and working

1. Sidelights front and rear

2. Head/dipped lamp circuits, working with column dip switch

3. Flasher circuits working from dash trafficator switch

4. Starter switch and starter working

5. Battery isolation switch installed and working

Still to do:-

A. Brake lights wired but need checked(on foot brake)

B. Dash lamp needs wired 

C. Ignition & coil circuit needs tested

D. Dash voltmeter to connect

E. Dynamo & cutout operation to check once engine started!! ( next week?)

Lastly been promised the newly plated radiator shell on Sunday!!!
at the Borders Vintage Automobile Clubs big rally (800 vehicles!) at Thirlestane Castle

Bought some rubber backed carpet and will trim to size to add to
the luxury leather interior :-)

Still working on the wiring circuits and also the exhaust pipe, but
made steady if somewhat slow progress.

Decided to fit small bullet shaped motorcycle indicator housings on
the front wing supports. They are very compact housings so had to take a Dremel
To the orange LED bulbs I’d bought. After some modifications the LED fitments 
Are now installed and working, using an electronic flasher unit controlled from a
period trafficator switch mounted on the dashboard.

Also fettled the downpipe and it’s now ready for having the mating flange brazed on.

Here’s  hoping the Rad shell is delivered on Sunday as promised!!

I’m taking the TR3A to the BVAC Thirlestane Castle Rally so the shell will need
To fit inside the rather tight cabin as I’ve still got the steel hardtop fitted.

Should you decide to go down the route of hot bending steel tube Bill by all means give me a shout - I just did one for my Ulster rep last weekend and will happily talk you through it. If all your bends are in one plane it should be fairly easy. There's a pic of my set-up (including improvised furnace) on the 'what did you do today' thread.

My pipe has 5 bends in it, two in different directions
that are not visible in the photo.

This pipe will get me going though...

I’d really like a 4 branch that goes down and feeds my silencer
but will need to wait till funds permit..

Sharing the cockpit of the TR3 Rally car is my freshly plated Austin 7 Chummy 
radiator shell. The guys at Longtown have made a very nice job of the steel shell.

It has had a LOT of copper as the steel shell was fairly marked by corrosion.

To help the polishing and plating they also took off the radiator cap shroud
which I’ll have to re-rivet on.

The plating looks excellent and should fit in well with the alloy bodywork and bright nickel screen.

Looking forward to fitting the shell and the bonnet soon!

By the way Norman Purves had his exceptional collection of Sevens here.
Two very, very old Chummies, a wonderful Coupe, a Replica first A7 Racer,
Plus a Brooklands body and an interesting replica rare early Austin 7 ( factorystyle) Sports
Everything was on 6” axles...

Glad you have got your radiator shell back. I know from previous posts, this was causing some anxiety. Looks as if it was worth waiting for, though!

I echo Mike's plea for photos of Tom Purves' cars. Please.
