What have you done today with your Austin Seven
It was Retford Charter Day today, and I took the Seven along to join others offering charity rides. Needless to say, the McLaren and the Ferrari Dino were the most popular, but I made six runs out, mostly for 10-12 year old children, who all thought it 'cool'! And the Seven was probably the most popular with foot traffic, with lots of people recalling parents/grandparents having Sevens; I may even have converted a couple of enthusiasts who say they are now looking for a Seven!

Well done Mike,

I love the charity work with the seven.

Again well done.

For the first time I got the chance to attend a small show down the road from me thurlaston or desford car show. Must have been over 300 cars of wich 7 or 8 austin 7s. And probably 100 to 150 auto jumble stalls.

As I was taking the car out of the garage this morning, two tuned and stickered up mk1 ford escorts screamed past the house. Both checked the car as They went past. An old motorcycle followed much slower. ( BET THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE THE COOLEST THING ON THE ROAD)

I went the long way to the show, so I could give the car a warn. And YES to open the throttle a little on the straight from desford crossing to the show turning.

There is a pub the bell I think on the left, I flew past doing 65 and over. Both the escorts and the motorcycle sat there with the drivers watching me plus others as I screamed past them.

( I think a noisy austin 7 at speed looked far cooler to them, than there mk1 escorts did to me).

Tony.

Not quite today....

But on Saturday, I was asked to supply the Chummy for my sons wedding near Bristol.

He says "it reminds me of being a kid, the bumps, the smell and the speed!"

How do you get a bride in a big dress into a Seven? No bridesmaids or father of the Groom obviously.
And leaving the church with the Groom WHERE does he go?.....in a trailer...................!
I have been asked to supply a car for a wedding in the village & the Chummy is my best option....I think!
Your experiences welcomed

Well, actually the Chummy was only used as a display piece because the wedding and the reception were all at the same place!

I have used a 4 seat tourer (1934) in the past as a wedding car, I had to remove the passenger seat and put a block of wood, carpeted over in place.

My 1925 Austin Heavy 12 was a much better bet for weddings, as was my Rover P2 14hp. Both sadly gone  Sad .

My wife went to our wedding in what was then dads RP. I went in my RL. My father the git surprised us with a Foden steam bus to take us to the reception.

Yesterday was the first day of using the Seven as my daily transport. Went to work and covered the 60 mile round trip impeccably. Covered the 30 mile journey each way in 1 hr 10 mins going and 1 hr 15 mins coming home. (There are hills!)

In fact the journeys were unremarkable save for a sighting of a Scammell Explorer with a similarly period caravan in tow parked in a layby on the A5 just above Glyndyfrdwy.
