All Alloy Cup progress
Interesting point, mine are as Mike says, horizontal, levers over the text (as mike says so the letters A,R,O and S make sense) Ignition left Gas right. 
A quick look at the the handbooks show that Vertical or Horizontal may have depended on year (if the handbook is believed to be representative of how the cars came out) all that I looked at pre tall rad (starting handbook 715B) are shown Vertical Gas to the top. Thereafter they are horizontal as Mike describes. Not sure I'll be changing mine though I think having them vertical would feel odd.

I recently bought some Austin rubber mats
and decided to make some running board
Tread plates for my Cup.

GE used pressed alloy plates but I like the idea of
using these Austin mats but with an alloy sheet base and
half round trim.

I’ll probably rivet the parts together but just used some
BA brass screws to hold them together.

I annealed the half round section to make
Them easier to bend.

One finished tonight! One to go.

Spent this morning finishing off two small tread plates
for the Cup running boards. These were made up from
off cuts of aluminium sheet and half round beading from
Other parts of the build. 

I bought some Austin heel mats off EBay and trimmed
them to fit, plus Araldited 4 csk  screws into the
baseplate, for easy fastening to the running board.. 

Now to take the wings off AGAIN for final welding 
and fettling.

When they come back I will be onto Finall Assembly!

Bill, I found fitting the throttle lever on the offside, and as my clamp screws are missing the spring, you can steer holding the wheel spoke, and use your thumb on the handle. Saves using your foot. Like driving a Morgan!.

My 9 year old daughter also found it easier to set the revs before pulling away.

Just out of curiosity, is there anything underneath the tread plates by way of support?

There’s a 2mm alloy plate under the rubber,
The rear wing is strongly supported at the front
end by a steel bracket, bolted into an ash plate
which is sandwiched in the side box section.

The rear wing also has 4 coachbolts bolting
The 4 x under wing supports.

But nobody is going to stand on them? :-)

My hand made wings are now away to have some
Minor welding repairs.

More space in the garage now so have started a Spring clean.

Hopefully that’s the end of the wood shavings, filing
, rust and dust over now. Steering column in next.
