Technical Query 

I am beginning the wiring on the Cup.
Although I have a later coil engine my chassis
No is fairly low 10xxx and would like to use the
Earlier Magneto switch panel.

It has an IGN post on the back of the panel
which I THINK in the OFF position actually “grounds”
The relevant part of the Magneto. Can someone confirm this point?

Should I therefore take a live feed from somewhere else and separately 
Switch the Power to the low tension of the coil?
This would make the OFF position of the switch redundant?

Also see the photo of my Cut Out which has two posts
To connect to D and A posts of the switch panel.
From looking at my photo, which post is A and which is D?

Also does anyone sell the flate plate fuses fitted
To the other posts within the cut out?

I’ve been granted permission to have my soldering iron
In the spare room as the garage is now too cold!

That looks like a coil one to me, it has a supply from the ammeter to both swiches

I thought coil cars had the panel with the charge light?
And Magneto cars had the dash plug sockets? But perhaps there was a crossover?

I think I’ll check the wiring with a battery and a bulb
To see how this one works.

The 'Magneto' type sockets on your switchboard aren't original - possibly a Lucas SM 5 Coil switchboard board with the red window panel taken off and the two non original sockets fitted.

I think Bill has the correct unit; the coil ignition version has the main feed going to the centre pillar of each switch:

I think the apparent 'wrong' socket on the face is because you have the plug fitted to the socket, and we are seeing the back of the plug.

The main feed bar looks to have a soldered repair about half-way down - this seems to be a common fault and caused no end of problems on my coil version; I ended up running a separate wire from the ammeter terminal ...

Regarding the cut-out connections, the terminals should be marked on the insulation base D+ and A; usually the D terminal is the one on the right in your photo, and the A is the terminal on the 'centre' post.

Looking at the rear of your coil panel is different
But just to check? Are you saying “correct” means coil type!

So there 3 types of SM panel...?

I was going to say as it has summer and winter winter charge settings rather than M (magneto) and D (dynamo) it seemed to be coil, but wasn't certain. Looking at the back it certainly seems likely it's coil, mag type only has strip to lighting switch (and the socket).
A test seems the best idea to be sure of which it's for, fingers crossed for you.

As Timothy says, a mag-type switch panel should have M and D on the face. I beiieve Bill's panel is an interim unit between the normal mag-type and the coil type with ignition light, presumably fitted to the late coil-ignition R-Type saloons late 1928? A circuit test will establish whether the ignition switch is earthed in the on position for a magneto, or live for a coil.

Well another 'new' bit of Austin Seven history- this   Lucas SM 3 1/2 (or is it SM 4) panel - the rear connections are a mixture of the Magneto panel SM 3 and Coil panel SM 5  and the coil connection is clearly marked IGN .

It is possible to wire an SM 3  for coil but a lot better to use this (rare? ) panel.

We discussed this on the forum recently - no one suggested a supplier, the answer was to use standard house fuse wire.
