I feel sure I have seen a period photo of a cup with a painted body, probably have it saved on my old computer will try to find it.

You may be correct R, I assumed the mottled finish seem on a lot of examples was just the way the rexine came. The picture I am thinking of showed a car in a plain colour with a white sheet behind it, as I recall it was rather and shiny not at all like a rexine skin. However in light of your comment I wonder if the old grey matter may be playing tricks on me, I will endeavour to find the picture.

Yes, I completely agree it seems likely that they could have made one with ali skin. I assume the plan is to make the boot lid yourself? Certainly a nice challenge, and if it doesn't come out to your liking, I'm sure there must be a coach-builder/panel maker/restorer nearby to finesse it or remake. You certainly seem to be keeping busy with it. Keep it up and it should be finished with no time.

There's a video with a clip of GE 1928 on a Period stage show which appears to be a version of silver with blue sponged pattern. What's surprising is just how shiny it it's so the silver must be painted? Most of the best Cup Replicas/Restored cars I've seen Have Rexine coatings which has been cellulosed In much the same way that Rexine trim in cars Has been restored. Regards Bill G

Despite the appalling weather, work continues
on my All Alloy Cup. Busy at the moment fettling the front wings, taking a breather from the tail cover , more later! Wing radius formed on our new shrinker stretcher. Alloy wings have 4 mm alloy wire in the edges. Valances to be riveted on. Presently they are fixed on with BA screws. The photos below are first fit and soon the wings will soon go for welding up After some refinishing, sanding and planishing. Enjoyed making the hood and sidescreen frames from sketches kindly posted by forum members. Now have most of the engine bits needed and hope to start on that soon. More posts to follow on lamps, bulbs and number plates. All the above greatly helped by Neil who lives locally and is also working On his GE Cup LWB Special. Two heads are better than one when learning metal bashing we’ve found. As learners we are having to be pragmatic about wing tips! Wings are incredibly light and stiff, slightly wider than standard? Alll the best from the snowy Borders....
