There were 44 Austin Sevens of various sorts entered in the VSCC Welsh Trial, so we felt flattered to have any at all in the Welsh Scatter Rally. Congratulations are due to Bethany Candlin, whose recently acquired driving licence helped her to Third place in the Clubmans Class. She obviously drove so speedily along the narrow lanes that she completely evaded Snapper Barratt. So instead here is a picture of a somewhat unlikely Nav Rallying Austin, Tim Hills's Heavy Twelve Four. Possibly it may have the advantage that tractors and Land Rovers seeing it approach reverse to let it proceed. Sadly the time needed to change a wheel caused a low score on a brave outing.
All of which is an introduction to calling for Austin entries for the Batho Scatter, happening this Saturday starting from Great Witley. Organiser Greg Nicholas is still taking entries. More Sevens signing on as PWA7C rather than VSCC might further our chances of snatching the Inter-Reg Trophy from the Model A gang. Personally I can't understand how the results are calculated. I am told that two bearded chaps who live most of the time as hermits in sandstone caves at Kinver, are taken up to the Bull and Bladder and given pints of Bathams whilst they calculate final scores and determine a winner. This might not be entirely true.
