Thanks guys. The experience has given me another useful contact. Andy Jones (now Wilkinson's owner) specialises in Aston Martin but still likes the vintage period cars. I had to virtually drag him away from my Swallow saloon!!! A really nice chap and a highly skilled panel beater.

It is interesting to know why HR wanted me to choose my own restorers. It may also have been because I insisted on a traditional repair. The downside of making a claim against my own insurance company was an unexpected impact on my wife's insurance premium because I was a named driver on her policy with another company. She was not amused!

For many years Fenella and I have insured our modern cars through RH as well as the old ones. and we have been very pleased with their recovery service on a number of occasions. Once I thought the premium for my modern BMW had become a bit steep so I checked elsewhere and went back to RH; they immediately agreed to look at it and reduced their premium, so always check if you are in this situation. On one occasion my modern Citroen broke a road spring in Calais, so I called the breakdown service, and within 10 minutes we were heading to the Citroen main dealer. It was lunchtime, so after the 2 hour wait for reception to re-open we were told that they could fix it 'next week when we get the part'. I called RH again who arrived very quickly to get us to the dock, arranged for us to be picked up at Dover and brought home. The car was unloaded at the local garage (closed) where I left it with a note explaining the problem, and phoned at breakfast time next day. The answer was 'all organise, you can have it back this afternoon'. We are well impressed with RH for the double recovery, and the local garage for being so much more practical than the CItroen main dealer in France.
