The earlier low compression head with tap primer plug holes I believe was 1A 684 (Part No BC 28) - I can't find any listing for a later 'intermediate' low compression head without primer holes used before the 1A 670, but I am sure there is one. The later 'high compression head of 1936 is 1A 911 with the two hole water connection.

When the topic was last raised there seemed little awareness of the change in c.r about 1933. The curious thing is that contemporary road tests (and present owners) seem to report a better performance from the generally RN updraught low comp cars than the RP?! Maybe at revs the lc breathes better, despite carb.Usual quoted bhp seem not to be the max. I wonder if the crank is cracked?

The AF 2 indicates it was cast in Austin Foundry No 2; I don't know the significance of the T.

Some years ago Malcolm Watts asked me to look through all our L/C heads to see if there were any dates near his 1929 RK - we have several hundred of these heads and not one was dated 1929, has anyone ever seen a ‘29 casting mark in head?
Our July 28 Chummy has the brass plugs in it’s original head.

My March 1929 RK has its original engine with number stamped on all major components.
The cylinder head has a number on the front face which is not an engine number but no date mark at all.
