Front brake cable adjustment
#1
On our '37 Ruby the fork which holds the aluminium brake-cable quadrant is threaded into the pivot pin which retains it. In order to adjust the cable I needed to remove the quadrant and screw in the fork a couple of extra turns -  horribly fiddly under the car especially as the split pin was seized in place. Is this a standard arrangement?

My earlier special has a simple wing nut on the back end of the fork for the adjustment. It seems much more satisfactory and I'm wondering why the "improvement" on later cars.

It’s the way they were, and it makes it difficult to adjust the brakes properly. I always drill them out and use a lock nut behind.

I have also fitted adjustable front brake cables to all my cars - great improvement to set up and continued adjustment.

Thank you both, that's helpful. Another little job to add to my winter "to do" list.
