Metallic or Metal Flake Paint on a Seven
#11
I am of the opinion that as its you car paint it to please yourself.

There were a lot of Hippy Colours used on A7s in the 1960s.
What you are planning on doing is better than breaking a solid car to make another Fake Ulster.

My current car was metallic green in the 1970s

But was repainted in its original colours in the early 1990s.

Have fun it can always be repainted again.

According to the A7CA website polychromatic grey-green and polychromatic blue were available from 1936. No swatches for either of them unfortunately.

I recommend something more muted than this:

Thank you, Tony and Peter, for the pictures, which give a good idea of how the paint would look. I confess that the blue car looks rather good to my eyes. I am a long way off from painting the car, but it is good to have some ideas ready. I am pretty sure that my daughter will have influencing views on whatever finish it does end up with.

Which reminds we. We await pictures of a certain purple creation.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think!

Gordon England used some pretty jazzy colour schemes on his coachbuilt cars in the late 1920's.  I don't think they were metallic, they were possibly sponged with silver paint.   The Wembley saloon that Earl Howe drove was finished in buff and marble blue with black wings, a colour scheme that I imagine was very attractive.
I personally don't like seeing cars that were originally black having the lower half repainted in a rather bright colour such as blue or red.  Worse still the larger saloons that are painted white below the waist to make them into 'wedding cars'.
I know that if it is your car you can paint it any colour you choose.  If I was looking to buy an Austin 7 I would go for one that was in its factory colour with its original number plate, unless it was something a bit special!

I know what you mean Malcolm, but sometimes you are stuck with what life serves you up... this was mine when it arrived

Reminds me of those patchwork VW Polos that were available a few years back.

There's more of that blue under the black on the driver's door, but if I'm honest I've never really bottomed what colour the car was originally. I'm happy to keep it black and cherry red (ish).
