Hi John
To misquote Michael Cain “You’re not supposed to blow the doors off”. Cheers Howard

It's been eventful today.
I started off in a bewildered state planning to go into Galashiels to get a printer cartridge and get petrol on the way. half way to the petrol station I realised I didn't know what cartridge I needed, so had to return home for the information. I then set off again intending to go to the petrol station on the Melrose bypass at Tweedbank. However the Austin is used to going a different way over the old Lowood bridge and took me that way. On the hill up from the Tweed the petrol ran out. I knew it was low but enough to get the the intended petrol station if there had been no diversion. I put in the spare gallon I always carry and then went on and completed the mission. As I was driving I realised a brake was dragging - rear O/S, The hub was hot. I returned home using the hand brake as the rear brake didn't release. I have now freed the seized brake cam on the rear offside. It was absolutely solid. This keeps happening and I'm not sure why. I replaced the cams and bushes (Oilite) failrly recently and know they are good. After lubrication, heat and hammering all was freed up, lubricated and reassembled. I hope they stay free. I expect using the car all year round does tend to make these thing happen. I have various trips over the next 2 days so I hope it will perfom well. Dragging brakes limit velocity.

As we all know, left to its own devices over an extended period, the brake system defaults to leave only one working - the OS/rear. Might it be that the heat built up was enough to fry the oil in the oilite bush, which then caused the seizure?

But why do they always put these signs on the footpath? How are we meant to walk home when the 7 let's us down?

Nah, the yellow sign shows a man not even pretending to work.

Oh, but he is working, in today's world thinking about where to dig or even to fill in a hole counts as work. As the famous scientist Richard Feynman recounted when he was asked to fix, aged 12, a valve radio. As he was pondering what to do with it, when the owner asked him why he wasn't working on it. "I'm thinking about what could be wrong," he replied. " Listen at 7:25 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmEoL5C7ths
